The Soviet Union was today accused by a State Department official of censoring and suppressing news involving Israel.

Andrew H. Berding, Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, said that “in recent weeks Soviet censorship of foreign correspondents’ dispatches from Moscow has become increasingly severe and arbitrary.” He revealed that “there was a 30-hour delay in clearing any stories on the resumption of public hearings in the Israeli-Soviet commercial arbitration case.” Mr. Berding spoke in a formal address before a meeting here.
