Col. Abraham Yaffe, commander of the Israeli Ninth Brigade which, during the Sinai operation, made its famed forced march from Elath to Sharm el Sheik, the southernmost point on the Sinal Peninsula, was today named commander of Israel’s Southern Command. The 45-year-old veteran of the Haganah and War of Liberation, who returned a few days ago from the United States, which he toured in behalf of the Israel bond drive, succeeds to a command previously held by Maj. Gen. Chaim Laskov, currently Army Chief of Staff.
