The Jewish Agency announced today approval of an additional 10,000,000 pound allocation for housing of immigrants in response to a request from Finance Minister Levi Eshkol. The sum will be advanced in next year’s budget. At the same time, Mr, Eshkol warned that unforeseen Government expenditures meant that the Government could not bear the financial load without help if vital housing projects were to be continued without interruption.
Dov Joseph, Jewish Agency treasurer, declared here today that there is a slow-down of Jewish immigration into Israel, but the cause consists of “external factors, ” and not fund shortages. The Agency’s absorption department made public today a break-down showing that 40 percent of the Immigrants who came to the country this year have settled In new development areas, 20 percent went to densely-populated areas along the coastal strip, and eight percent were absorbed in settlements.
