Syrian Boat Intercepted by Israel; Brought into Haifa Harbor

A Syrian boat of 150 tons was intercepted by an Israel coastal patrol boat in Israel territorial waters near Ashkelon during Rosh Hashanah, officials reported today. The boat was brought by tug into Haifa harbor and the crew placed under surveillance. It was believed the boat was en route from Gaza towards Beirut.

A 16-year-old Arab youth from a border village in the Little Triangle has been arrested on suspicion of espionage, it was reported today. The arrest was made following the imprisonment of an Arab alleged spy group in Israel last July. The entire group is awaiting trial for which a date remains to be set. The youth’s name was withheld.
