French Chief Rabbi Jacob Kaplan left Paris this morning for Algiers on what was described as a “special mission” in the course of which he will confer with Paul de Louvrier, new Director General of Algeria.

While the nature of the Chief Rabbi’s mission was not made public, it is known that Algerian Jewry has been troubled by signs of anti-Semitism which have recently made their appearance in Algeria. The Jews have raised this question with the French authorities.
