The Joint Distribution Committee in Germany paid out nearly 12,000,000 marks (approximately $3,000,000) for a variety of welfare and cultural projects in the past five years, the JDC office here announced today. JDC funds were also used to give professionals and artisans an economic start.
The major part of the JDC budget was paid to the Central Welfare Organization of German Jews which supports a monthly average of 1,500 Jews. In addition, the central fund supports 600 aged people in 13 homes, eight nursery schools with a total attendance of 200 and other child and youth programs.
The Central Council of Jews in Germany received the equivalent if $220,000 for cultural purposes, including the payment of salaries of 44 teachers of religion and the underwriting of several plications. Five Jewish Loan Funds aided 1,720 persons with some $400,000 provided by JDC.
