Unemployment Rises Among Jews in Morocco; Jews Replaced by Moslems

Unemployment is on the increase among Jews in Morocco, according to information received here today. Skilled artisans among the Jews are now finding it as difficult to get work as the unskilled workmen.

The rise in Jewish unemployment is reportedly due in part to the fact that the French have departed, leaving Moslems in charge in many places where they have dismissed Jews in favor of Moslem workers. This is true not only in private enterprise, but in government employment as well.

Recently, five Jewish Government employes in Marrakesh were dismissed, when Moslems had been trained as replacements, the report received here states. Another factor in Jewish unemployment is the recent decline in the Moroccan building industry
