The Ministry of Religious Affairs disclosed today it was seeking from overseas communities 1,000 Torah Scrolls and 1,000 pairs of phylacteries for new synagogues in Israel.

The quest will be carried out during the High Holy Days by Rabbi Jechiel Wohlgelernter, chief secretary of the Chief Rabbinate, in the United States, Canadian and British communities. His mission was expected to be supported by rabbis and their congregations in those communities which will be canvassed for surplus Scrolls and unused phylacteries.
