Concern was felt here today over the fate of an estimated 2,500 Jews living in the Belgian Congo, scene of widespread anti-European rioting. The Jewish population of the newly proclaimed state is organized in eight communities affiliated with the central community in Elizabethville.

All members of the Israel diplomatic staff and advisers assigned to the new state, about 10 in all, were reported safe in Leopoldville today, although some of them had been molested by insurgent soldiers.

Ehud Avriel, Israel ambassador to the republic, visited the Foreign Minister to protest in the name of the diplomatic corps at the treatment it was receiving at the hands of the soldiers. He was later visited by the Foreign Minister who apologized in the name of the Government.
