Jew Elected As Mayor in California Town; Receives Large Plurality

This city of 15, 000, the home of the Kaiser Steel Works, has elected a Jew as mayor for a four-year term by the largest plurality in its history.

The new Mayor, Nathan Simon, came to Fontana from New Jersey in 1944 and established a hardware store which has become the largest in the city. Both the Mayor and his wife are active in the 100-member Fontana Jewish community.
