Samuel Telsey, Former President of Hias, Dead; Funeral Today

Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for Samuel A. Telsey, 79, past president of the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) and a prominent New York City attorney. Mr. Telsey died Friday in Port Chester, N. Y.

Mr. Telsey, a senior member of the law firm of Telsey and Lowenthal was a leader of HIAS for almost 30 years, serving as president from 1947 to 1953. At the time of his death, he was a member of the board of directors of the United HIAS Service, one of whose predecessor agencies was HIAS.

In the summer of 1933, Mr. Telsey went to Europe and helped organize the HIAS European headquarters in Paris to aid the needs of refugees who were migrating as a result of Hitler’s rise to power.
