80 Percent of Arab Wage Earners in Israel Are Employed by Jews

Some 16,000 Arab workers in this country now are members of Histadrut, the Israeli Federation of Labor, comprising eight percent of the total Arab population, figures issued by Histadrut here disclosed today. The statistics, show that 80 percent of the Arab wage earners in Israel are employed by enterprises owned by Jews.

Histadrut made these figures public as part of a campaign to enroll more of the Arab workers in trade unions. According to Histadrut officials, there are many Arab workers in Israel, employed in agriculture, receiving wages below trade union standards and getting inadequate social welfare benefits.
