Yaacov Cahan, noted Hebrew poet and writer, died at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah, after a long illness. He was 79 years of age. He was a winner of the Bialik and Tehernichowsky literary awards and was the winner of the State of Israel Award in 1953 and again in 1958.
Born in Slutzk, Byelorussia, Mr. Cahan settled in Palestine in the early thirties. One of his early songs, "In Blood and In Fire, Judea Fell," became the slogan of the Hashomer group at the beginning of this century.
