The Committee on Security and Foreign Affairs of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, refused today to summon General Chaim Laskov to explain his reasons for his recent resignation as Chief of Staff. The action was immediately protested by Menahem Bader, a deputy of the right wing opposition party, Herut.
The issue developed when Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, in his capacity as Defense Minister, reported on the new organization of the military high command at a session of the committee today. General Laskov was succeeded by Brigadier General Zvi Tsur.
