Demands that the United Nations take action to compel Morocco to live up to the UN Charter and to safeguard the rights of Moroccan Jews, were made here today by a number of prominent Israelis attending a meeting in memory of the 43 Jewish emigrants from Morocco, who perished in the Mediterranean Sea two weeks ago on their way to Israel.
Memorial meetings were held in a number of Israeli centers, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. In attendance were Moroccan settlers in Israel, leading members of the Cabinet, members of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, and many rabbis. The largest of the meetings was held in Habimah Hall at Tel Aviv, where memorial services were conducted by rabbis wearing Oriental garb.
Later, a delegation of Moroccan Jews was received here by Foreign Minister Golda Moir, who pledged that the Israel Government would remain firm in its demands for freedom of movement for Moroccan Jews.
