Soviet Ambassador Mikhail Bodrov today handed Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion a lengthy letter from Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev concerning the discussions of the Congo situation at the forthcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly which will convene in New York next month.
The note, which outlined the Soviet position and proposals for the solution of the Congo crisis, was presumably identical with the notes on the subject sent to the heads of other Asian and African governments. Today’s note to Premier Ben-Gurion, however, did not mention Soviet demands to oust Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold, which were mentioned in the notes to the other countries.
