The remains of Moshe Novomeysky, a pioneer in the exploitation of Dead Sea minerals, who died here last week at the age of 88, will be transferred to Israel after temporary burial here, it was announced today. Mr. Novomeysky was the founder and former managing director of the Palestine Potash Company.
Born in Barguzin, Siberia, Mr. Novomeysky first studied the chemical analysis of water from the Dead Sea in 1906 in his laboratory in Russia. In 1920 he settled in Palestine where, after many years of negotiation with the Mandatory Government and through extensive efforts to raise sufficient capital, he secured a 75-year franchise for the Palestine Potash Co. to extract minerals from the Dead Sea. He had also been managing director of the Palestine Mining Syndicate and chairman of Fertilizers and Chemicals, Ltd.
It was the financial backing that Mr. Novomeysky received from the Palestine Economic Corporation that enabled him to obtain the Dead Sea concession from the British Colonial Office.
