A total of 140 scholarships were distributed here today by the American-Israel Cultural Foundation to winners from among more than 500 entrants. Among the scholarship winners were 44 pianists and 42 players of string instruments.

The ceremony was held at the Mann Auditorium in the presence of hundreds of proud parents who also had a chance to listen to the first public performances by their sons and daughters. It was a “rain of sound” according to one of the judges, who said each of the applicants seems to have been a really promising musician or artist.
