President Izaak Ben-Zip today commuted the life sentence of Dan Shemer, one of the three Israelis previously given sentences of life imprisonment for the assassination of Israel Kastner, formerly a leader of the Hungarian Jewish Community. Mr. Ben-Zvi cut Shemer’s sentence to 15 years. Two others convicted of that murder, Zeev Eckstein and Joseph Menkes, are serving life sentences.
