Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion met today for two hours with Dr. Joseph Johnson, the special emissary of the United Nations Palestine Conciliation Commission touring the Middle East on a study of the Arab refugee problem.
While details of the talks were not disclosed, it was reported that the Prime Minister explained to Dr. Johnson the Israeli viewpoint on the solution of the Arab refugee problem. The emissary’s talks with Mr. Ben-Gurion completed his first round of conversations with Arab and Israeli leaders on the problem.
Political sources pointed out that Israel has repeatedly affirmed readiness to contribute a share to any general plan for solving the problem which Israel insists was created by the Arabs. Israel is known to be ready to compensate Arab refugees with funds promised to be put at Israel’s disposal by international bodies.
