A nation-wide strike of teachers in Israel’s public schools appeared inevitable today after meetings between the Teachers Union and government officials failed to bring a settlement of wage demands nearer.
Top officials of the Education and Finance Ministries met with teacher representatives to explore the union demands which also called for improved working conditions. The teachers’ spokesman contended that the gains had been promised them last year but that no action had been taken to implement the pledges.
