$44,000,000 Spent by Israel in 1961 on Purchase of Newships

Israel spent the record sum of $44,000,000 for the purchase of ships during 1961, according to figures revealed here today.

During the year, the data reveal, Israel’s passenger and merchant fleet increased by almost two-fifths to 520,000 tons. Seventeen new ships have been acquired, including the passenger ship Moledet and 16 cargo vessels.
