Liquidation of unclaimed or heirless property will yield 140,000, 000 schillings ($5,600,000) for the benefit of persecutees living in Austria, Finance Minister Josef Klaus told a press conference here today.
He also disclosed that about 1,000 restitution cases still were pending and he confirmed reports that payments made possible by the West-German-Austrian compensation agreement would begin in mid-summer for aged and needy victims of the Nazi era in Austria.
He said that since the end of World War II, Austria had spent 2, 000,000, 000 schillings ($30, 000, 000) in compensation to political and racial persecutees out of a total of 20,500,000,000 schillings ($820,000,000) in compensation to all World War II victims.
