The spiritual strength Canadian Jews draw from the development of the State of Israel contributes to the national strength of Canada, John Bassett, publisher of The Toronto Telegram, said here last night.
Speaking at the 12th annual Citizen of the Year award dinner, Mr. Bassett said: “The State of Israeli has proven to the world that, in the end, qualities of honor, courage and compassion are winning qualities.” He added that “Israel’s ‘Point Four’ aid plan for the newly emerging states of Asia and Africa had been a most important factor in combating Communism in these areas.”
