An Association of Jewish Book Publishers, the first of its kind in this country, was formed here today for the purposes of encouraging maximum use of Jewish books, and the development of ethical standards for the sale and distribution of such books. The association, according to Dr. Arthur Jacobs, who was elected president of the new group, will also represent the interests of Jewish textbook publishers before governmental and public bodies on issues and legislation affecting their field.

Dr. Jacobs, who is administrative secretary of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, said that the membership of the organization includes publishers representing all three branches of Judaism–Orthodox, Conservative and Reform. Founding members are Behrman House, Inc.; Bloch Publishing Co.; Jewish Education Committee: Ktav Publishing Co., Inc.; the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; and the United Synagogue of America.
