President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi of Israel made a brief stopover here this afternoon on his way to an official state visit to Congo (Brazzaville).
Though the visit to France was not considered official, being only a brief halt for changing planes, he was accorded all the customary courtesies on his arrival. An escort of police motorcyclists accompanied the Presidential party to their hotel for a brief rest stop.
From the hotel, the President drove to the Memorial to the Unknown Jewish Martyr, and then toured the old quarters of Paris. In the evening, the President boarded a plane bound for Brazzaville. The Presidential party included Ehud Avriel, assistant director-general of the Foreign Ministry. During his visit to the Memorial, which was erected on land granted by the Paris municipality to commemorate the 6,000,000 Jews killed by the Nazis, the President participated in a service at which Kaddish was recited.
