Arthur J. Goldberg, the fourth American of Jewish faith to serve on the United States Supreme Court, was sworn in today as the court opened its 1962-1963 term.

President Kennedy attended the brief swearing-in ceremony of his former Secretary of Labor. Also in attendance were Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson, several other Cabinet members, Speaker of the House John McCormack and a number of Congressional leaders. Chief Justice Earl Warren praised retiring Justice Felix Frankfurter as a “scholar, teacher and enlightened critic.”
