Democratic Congressman Leonard Farbstein of New York asked the House of Representatives today to support a call through the United Nations for direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Arab states.

“With the withdrawal by the African and Asian countries of the recent resolution requesting direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Arab states, there is no positive and forward-looking proceeding before the United Nations calling for peace in the area, ” the New York lawmaker, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in introducing his resolution.

Rep. Farbstein’s appeal would put the House on record as “advising” the U.S. delegation to the United Nations that it favors the introduction of a similar resolution in the world organization.
