U.S. Watches Jordan; Keeps Contact with Israel and Arab States

The Department of State is closely observing developments in the Near East and has maintained contact in recent days with Israeli diplomats here to gain knowledge of Israeli views and intentions connected with developments in Jordan and the situation created by the expanding United Arab Republic.

This was learned today from U. S. Government sources who said that the main purpose in the Israel-American discussions was to determine the Israeli evaluation, similar contact is being maintained with Arab states neighboring Israel, it was made known.
