Lt. Gen. Israel Solomonovitch Beskin, one of the highest decorated Soviet army officers, and a Jew, died in the USSR this weekend, aged 68, according to a Moscow dispatch received here today. He retired from active service and has been ill several months, according to Moscow sources.
Gen. Beskin held highly responsible posts in the Red Army during World War II and, after the war, headed the Soviet Union’s artillery corps. Among his decorations were three citations in the Order of Lenin and three awards of the Red Banner.
