18,000 Jewish Tourists Remained in Israel As Permanent Settlers

Almost 18, 000 Jews who came to Israel as tourists since statehood have remained as settlers, Government officials reported today. A total of 2,278 tourists settled in Israel last year and almost 1,300 of them received Israeli citizenship. Thirty-seven percent of those settlers last year were from Asia and Africa and the rest from Europe and the United States.
