West Germany’s formal recognition of Israel will be acted on after certain unresolved questions concerning the Israel Mission at Cologne are settled, A. Krueger, the Government’s deputy press secretary, declared today at a regular weekly press conference. He declined to say when this would happen.
He also said that trips of various West German envoys to Arab countries, to cushion the impact of Bonn’s projected recognition of Israel, were coordinated and planned.
He was asked by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency whether a number of West Germans, arrested by Egyptian police in Cairo on charges of spying for Israel, had been able to see their consular representative. The spokesman replied that they had, but declined to give any other details.
