A large gathering of Jewish communal leaders welcomed the new Israel Consul-General to South Africa, Lt. Col. Yaakov Monbaz, at a reception at the Zionist Hall here, sponsored jointly by the South African Zionist Federation and the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies.

Mr. I.A. Maisels, honorary president of the S.A. Zionist Federation, who presided, said the joint auspices under which the reception was being held was indicative of the character of South African Jewry, which was united in its adherence to Zionism and its support of the up building of the State of Israel.

Dr. Teddy Schneider, president of the Board of Deputies, bringing greetings from his organization, endorsed what had been said about the unity of South African Jewry. The community, he said, was united on two major fronts: to help ensure the growth and security of the State of Israel, and to consolidate and nourish Jewish life in South Africa. He felt sure that Col. Monbaz would bring welcome stimulation from Israel to South African Jewry.
