Some 1,000 members of the 3,200 families of Temple Emanu-El, one of the largest Reform congregations in the world, met last night to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Temple’s founding.

The congregation was formed by 38 Jews in 1845 in lower Manhattan. The present Temple was built in 1930 on Manhattan’s upper Fifth Avenue. A message of congratulation was read from President Johnson. David Sarnoff, a trustee and chairman of the Radio Corporation of America, served as chairman of the anniversary committee. Dr. Julius Mark is senior rabbi.
