Zalman Yefroikin, Educator, Writer, Dead at 71; Funeral Tomorrow

Zalman Yefroikin, Latvian-born Jewish educator and writer, died suddenly yesterday at a meeting of the executive here of the Workmen’s Circle of which he had been educational director since 1953. He was 71.

A graduate of the Jewish Teachers Seminary in Riga, he came to the United States in 1921 and taught in several Yiddish-language schools. He had been an editor and author of a number of books. He was a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Yiddish Research (YIVO), the executive board of the Congress for Jewish Culture, the executive board of the General Encyclopedia in Yiddish, and the administrative committee of the Jewish Labor Committee and of the Forward Association. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday.
