Young Israel, Orthodox Jewish youth movement, has been accorded status as a non-governmental agency accredited to the United Nations, Nathan Saperstein, president of its national council, announced today.
The organization, with about 100,000 members in this country, Canada, South America and Israel, is the first Jewish youth organization to receive U.N. accreditation as a non-governmental agency. Its representatives will be entitled to present the organization views on a wide range of subjects before many of the U.N. organs, particularly those of special concern to the Jewish community.
Mr. Saperstein expressed Young Israel’s gratitude to Dr. Mordecai Hacohen, who was rapporteur-general of the first U.N. conference on public management, for his role in negotiating the accreditation of the organization. Dr. Hacohen is now special consultant to the American Bank *** Trust Company.
