Col. Sefrioui, Governor of Casablanca, attended a Bar Mitzvah ceremony here for 17 Jewish boys. He was accompanied by his wife and three of his closest associates.
The ceremony was sponsored by the En Habanim association, an organization engaged in religious teaching of poor Jews. The association annually arranges for a Bar Mitzvah for orphaned Jewish boys. The Governor spent three hours with the group. Grand Rabbis Messas and Malka sat with the Governor and his party.
One of the orphans sang Hebrew songs during the ceremony and was later presented with a gift of 150 dirhams ($30) by the Governor, whose attendance at the event was sidely commented on by Casablanca Jewry. The attendance at the ceremony by the Governor was considered an expression of friendship to the Jewish community not only by him but also by the King of Morocco.
