A hand grenade was thrown into the home of a Brighton rabbi while he and his family slept last night, capping two weeks of harassment and threats of violence from unidentified parties.

The grenade was thrown through a window in the house of Rabbi Bernard Braunstein, 48, damaging walls, floors, ceilings and furniture, but causing no injuries to the rabbi, his wife or their six children. The incident occurred shortly after police, who have been guarding the house, went off duty. According to the Braunstein family, a slab of concrete was hurled through a front window of the house a week ago, and they have been subjected to threatening telephone calls day and night and to at least two visits by men who threatened violence. Police have a description of one of the callers and are searching for him.
