Toronto Sells over $1 Million in Israel Bonds, Honoring D. Lou Harris

More than $1,000,000 in State of Israel Bonds was sold in tribute to D. Lou Harris, National Chairman of the Israel Bond drive for Canada, whose 70th birthday was celebrated tonight. He was honored at a dinner attended by more than 1,000 persons.

The Prime Minister’s Medal of the State of Israel, which Israel’s Premier Levi Eshkol established in special recognition of the role of Israel Bonds in Israel’s development, was presented to Mr. Harris at the testimonial dinner. The event was sponsored by the State of Israel Bond drive.

Mitchell Sharp, Canadian Minister of Finance; Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, vice-president of the Israel Bond Organization; and John Bassett, publisher of the Toronto Telegram, paid tribute to Mr. Harris’s record of leadership in behalf of Israel and in a wide variety of communal and humanitarian activities.
