French Actress Rejects Bid to De Gaulle Party; Jewish Leaders Discuss Issue Further

Vera Korene, a well-known, French-Jewish actress, has rejected an invitation from President Charles de Gaulle to attend a garden party, in protest against Gen. de Gaulle’s recent anti-Israel, anti-Jewish remarks, it was learned here today.

Tonight, a meeting of French, Jewish leaders was held here at the headquarters of Fonds Social Juif Unifie to give further consideration of the Jewish community’s response to Gen. de Gaulle’s attacks. Among the participants was Grand Rabbi Jacob Kaplan, who had issued the community’s formal protest against Gen, de Gaulle’s newly-expressed attitudes toward Israel and the Jewish people.
