Rotterdam Jewish Community to Mark Its 1,400th Anniversary in May

A huge menorah will be erected in the center of Rotterdam in May when the Jewish community marks its 1,400th anniversary concurrently with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Israel’s independence. Events scheduled for the occasion include an exhibit on the history of Rotterdam Jewry which will be opened by Burgomaster Willem Thomassen and Chief Rabbi Louis Vorst, There will also be an Israel Week and an exhibition of Israeli architecture to be opened by Israel’s Ambassador, Dr. Daniel Lewin, an exhibit of Israeli graphic art and a concert by the Israeli Chamber Ensemble conducted by Gary Bertini.
