Jordanian guns opened fire on Israeli units in the Beisan area at 10 o’clock this morning, touching off an hour-long artillery duel in which a Jordanian armored car was set afire and a Jordanian Army truck was hit.

The incident occurred north of Maoz Chaim, not far from the water pumping station at Kibbutz Hamadiyeh which was damaged by high explosives last night. A military spokesman also reported that three mortar shells exploded in the fields of Beit Joseph shortly after 8 o’clock last night but there were no casualties or damage. The water pump and the building in which it was housed were damaged by the explosives that were apparently hurled over the perimeter fence surrounding the pumping station, a military spokesman said. The incident occurred at about 8 o’clock last night. Five sets of footprints were found leading from the pumping station to the Jordan River.
