The Ministry of Interior announced today that it had authorized the admission of 20 blind young men and women from Jordan on humanitarian grounds so that they can be assisted by philanthropic institutions in East Jerusalem. The Ministry noted that the youngsters had no family in Jerusalem and therefore did not qualify under the family reunion program. They will be admitted to the Jerusalem School for the Blind and the Mary Lovett Home for Blind Girls.
A one million pound ($350,000) loan fund has been set up by the Jerusalem municipality and the Ministry of Housing to assist East Jerusalem Arabs to build new housing, it was announced today. Loans of up to 10,000 pounds ($3,500) will be granted to Arab contractors and landlords.
