Students at a girls’ high school in Gaza returned to their classes peacefully today as the presence of Israeli troops stymied their attempt to organize anti-Israel demonstrations. Demonstrations were forestalled in a similar manner in other Gaza schools. The night curfew was shortened by five hours and is now in effect only from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The curfew was lifted in Tubbas village on the West Vank yesterday following a meeting of Gen. Dayan with the chairman of the village council. The Arab reportedly expressed regret over the anti-Israel demonstrations by village school girls and promised to prevent their recurrence
Gen. Dayan yesterday told village notables in the West Bank town of Tulkarm that any West Bank Arab who is dissatisfied with life under the Israeli occupation regime is free to sell his property and leave for other Arab countries. He said that the Israeli regime was democratic but said “no one is obliged to live under it.”
