Menahem Romano Dead at 87, Last Surviving Yugoslavian Pre-war Rabbi

Representatives of all sections of Yugoslavian Jewry and emissaries from non-Jewish groups attended funeral services in Sarajevo for Rabbi Menahem Romano, the last survivor of Yugoslavia’s pre-war rabbis, who died there at the age of 87. Rabbi Romano, popular as a teacher as well as a spiritual leader, was born in Sarajevo and was educated at the rabbinical college there. He was the author of a Yom Kippur prayerbook with commentary and of other religious and liturgical works. Rabbi Josef Schweizer of Hungary officiated at the funeral services.
