David H. Kurtzman, Pennsylvania superintendent of public instruction, has approved the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College’s program for a Doctor of Hebrew Letters Degree. The approval came in a letter to Rabbi Ira Eisenstein, the college’s president. It followed a visit to the recently-established college by representatives of the state public instruction department.

Rabbi Eisenstein reported today that the college had been promised the book collection of Dr. Mordecai M, Kaplan, founder of the Reconstructionist movement–a collection containing 15,000 to 20,000 volumes. In addition, the college has received the library of Rabbi Max Schenk, former New York Board of Rabbis president, comprising 7,000 volumes.
