Israel is expected to account for 25 percent of the total citrus production of the Mediterranean area shipped to European markets during the 1969-70 citrus season, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was told yesterday by the European director of the Israel Citrus Marketing Board. Moshe Levin said that his projection, based on past experience, is that Israel will be sending 725,000 tons of citrus to Europe out of an expected total of three million tons from all citrus-producing countries in the Mediterranean. Mr. Levin said there was every reason to expect a “fair” season. He said that prices were good at the start but have been dropping owing to an abundant supply from Israel, Cyprus, Morocco, Spain and Honduras.
He said Israel is expected to ship 41 million containers of various citrus fruits to Europe this season plus another four million containers from the Gaza Strip.
