Israel Air Force jets were active on the Egyptian, Jordanian and Lebanese fronts today. Jordanian artillery positions were hit for about an hour following a fatal rocket attack on Beisan township. The planes also raked guerrilla bases on the southwest slopes of Mt. Hermon and east of the Hasbani River in Lebanon. The heaviest attacks were carried out against Egyptian positions in the Suez Canal zone. A 45-minute attack this afternoon followed a series of morning attacks. Egyp- tian targets were pounded by Israeli jets for more than five and a half hours last night. A military spokesman said all aircraft returned safely from all missions. Two Israeli soldiers were wounded in fire exchanges with Egyptian forces in the canal zone today. The Israeli air raids were stepped up after two Egyptian commando ambushes took the lives of 13 Israeli soldiers on Saturday. The casualties were the highest for a single day since the June, 1967 Six-Day War. Israeli Army statistics disclosed that May was the costliest month for Israel since, June, 1967. Forty-three Israeli soldiers were killed and 106 were wounded on all fronts.
