A new book, “Deutschland Ohne Juden” (Germany Without Jews), has aroused considerable interest here. The author, Bernt Englemann, asserts that as a result of Hitler’s persecution, Germany today must do without the cultural, scientific, economic and political talent of Jews and is the poorer for it. He also claims that if Hitler hadn’t destroyed German Jewry, the country would not be divided today. The 50-year-old author was in the news recently when he filed suit against the organizers of the Oberammergau Passion Play on grounds that their motives were anti-Semitic and therefore an offense against the West German constitution.
