Mayor Stephen May and Urban Renewal Administrator Robert L. Spellman have asked the City Council to approve a $60,000 study of the feasibility of constructing a Habitat – the housing project based on the architectural methods of Israeli architect Moshe Safdi-in this city. Safdi and his housing construction method received international acclaim when the Habitat was first unveiled at Expo ’67 in Montreal. If construction of the edifice, to be known as Habitat-Rochester, is approved, this city will be the first in the continental United States to boast a Habitat.
